Barefoot Doctor is a spiritual groove artist and writer whose work combines music, Taoist practice and healing disciplines. He describes a childhood shaped by mysticism and goes on to study Aikido, energy healing and meditation at the age of 11, then yoga and Tai Chi in his later teens.

Background and training

In his early twenties, he studies the human psyche with R. D. Laing. He then spends four years living with Native Americans in New Mexico, where he studies shamanism. In his mid- to late twenties, he studies acupuncture and Taoism.

London practice and teaching

He returns to London in 1983 and runs a busy acupuncture healing practice until 2000. Alongside that work, he carries out experimental performance events, workshops, seminars and talks, while also making healing music and teaching Tai Chi and meditation.

Writing, media and online work

From 2000 onwards, he concentrates on book writing, media work and running his website, which begins in 1998 as an informal online Taoism training school and virtual clinic offering email coaching. He also runs School For Warriors, an eight-week online course on the principles of personal power, and maintains www.superchargedtaoist.com.

Books and music

He spends his time writing, making music and performing workshops, seminars, talks and musical events around the world, while also helping people through his teaching and coaching work. His 13th book is The Man Who Drove With His Eyes Closed - And My Other Astonishing Teachers and Gurus, published by Hay House in the UK, and in the US under the title Supercharged Taoist.
