Bardo Pond
Bardo Pond are a psychedelic rock group from Philadelphia, United States, formed in 1991 and active since then. They are associated with drone, jam band, neo-psychedelia, noise rock, post-rock and psychedelic rock, and they are also described through related styles such as space rock, acid rock and shoegaze.
Line-up and recordings
The group’s current line-up includes Michael Gibbons on guitar, John Gibbons on guitar, Isobel Sollenberger on flute and vocals, Clint Takeda on bass guitar, Jason Kourkounis on drums, and Aaron Igler on synth and electronics. Other members associated with the band include Joe Culver, Ed Farnsworth and Aye Aye. They are signed to Fire Records in London and also appear with Capillary River Music.
Sound and approach
Their music uses droning guitars, thick distortion, feedback, reverb and washes of noise, with long, deliberate instrumental passages. Their album titles often take their names from esoteric psychedelic substances. Their work is often compared with Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3 and My Bloody Valentine.
