Barbara Tucker is a Brooklyn-born American singer, dancer and actress associated with house, soulful house, vocal house and dance music, with a voice rooted in soul. Raised in Brooklyn and in church, she develops her singing through church singing and the influence of her father, Jayotis Washington, who is part of the group The Persuasions.

Performance and theatre

As an actress, Tucker appears in off-Broadway productions and receives a T.O.R. award from the American Theater for actors for most promising actress with distinguishing artiste. She also works as a dancer and choreographer, performing and choreographing for artists including C&C, Soul System, Jay Williams and Dee-Lite. She choreographs the First Club Music Award Show and is choreographer for The Underground Network Dancers.

Recording career

As a vocalist, Tucker records her own material and also provides background vocals for artists including Dee-Lite and George Clinton. Her underground tracks include “Set It Off”, “Black Delilah Dee”, “Open Your Heart” and “Unity”, on which she features. She signs to Masters At Work, the production team of Little Louie Vega and Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, and is associated with recordings including “Deep Inside”, “Beautiful People”, “I Get Lifted”, “Stay Together” and “Stop Playing With My Mind”. She also moves from Harlequin 4 to a solo career.
