Banda el Recodo

Banda el Recodo is a Mexican orchestra from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, formed in 1938 and active to the present day. Also known as Banda Sinaloense el Recodo de Don Cruz Lizárraga, it is closely associated with the Lizárraga family, which directs the group across its history. It belongs to the banda sinaloense, latin and regional mexicano styles.

History and formation

The group is founded by Don Cruz Lizárraga, who comes from Sinaloa, Mexico. He leaves high school to work, teaches himself to play the clarinet, and sells one of his hogs to buy his instrument. After moving to Mazatlán, he signs with RCA Victor and forms Banda el Recodo. After his death in 1995, his son takes over the group and continues its international touring.

Line-up and instrumentation

The ensemble uses four clarinets, three trumpets, a tambora, a tarola, a tuba in sousaphone style, three trombones and three singers.
