Bananagun

Bananagun is an Australian group that emerges in Melbourne in the late 2010s. The line-up includes Nick Van Bakel, Jack Crook, Josh Dans, Jimi Gregg and Millar Wileman. The band develops from the demos of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Van Bakel, and later includes members of Parsnip and Frowning Clouds.

The group’s music draws on vintage psychedelia, including Tropicália, 1970s Afro-beat and summery retro-pop, with the Monks and Os Mutantes named as direct influences. Its first song, “Do Yeah”, appears on Australian indie label Anti Fade Records in early 2019 and opens the band’s three-track debut EP of the same name, which then comes out on Full Time Hobby later that year.

After the 2019 EP brings the band attention, Bananagun completes work on its debut album, The True Story of Bananagun, which appears in 2020. The album extends the group’s global fusion sound across a full-length release.
