Baltra

Baltra is a New York-based producer and DJ who develops a sound associated with house and lo-fi house, with influences from deep house and outsider house. Raised in Philadelphia, he starts releasing music in the mid-2010s alongside the lo-fi house wave and artists including Mall Grab, Ross From Friends and DJ Seinfeld.

Recordings and labels

His releases appear on Step Rec., IDNK (I Do Not Know), Tape Throb Records, Shall Not Fade’s sub-label Lost Palms, Of Paradise, and his own labels 96 and Forever Records and 96 And Forever Records. He gains a wide audience through streaming platforms, with some tracks reaching millions of plays.

Style and collaborations

Baltra often uses his own voice, as well as vocals from collaborators such as Park Hye Jin, rather than relying on samples. His work is noted for its emphasis on detail, with music that balances romance and melancholy and moves across both higher and lower tempos.

Albums and EPs

In 2019 he releases his debut album Ted. In 2021 he issues two EPs: Ambition on Local Action, which features remixes from Yazzus, Martyn Bootyspoon, CFCF, Ariel Zetina and Wawa, and Dreaming Of A Disco on Shall Not Fade. He also releases the single “Tell Me” through 96 And Forever Records as part of the Where I End EP.
