B Traits

B Traits is a Canadian electronic DJ and producer, born in 1986 and raised in Nelson, British Columbia. She relocates to Vancouver in 2004, where she starts to build a reputation through DJ sets that combine smooth beat-matching with a broad selection of underground dance music.

Early development

She begins DJing at 16, using a turntable and headphones as a way to pursue music as a creative outlet. Her approach is rooted in underground music, but she develops a style that draws on a wide range of genres rather than staying within one format.

Career

By 2004 she is based in Vancouver and performing in clubs and at dance events, where her sets are noted for heavy beats and bass. In 2007 she is recruited by Shy FX and becomes the first female artist signed to Digital Soundboy Recordings, the UK label associated with his Digital Soundboy project.

Style and coverage

Her DJ work spans electro, breakbeats, glitch hop, dubstep, drum and bass, reggae, dancehall, hip hop, funk and house. She also appears on radio shows including BBC Radio 1 and Ministry of Sound, and is featured in magazines such as MixMag, DJ Mag, Knowledge Mag and ATM, which puts her on the cover of ATM in July 2008.
