Ava is the name used by several different artists and groups. One project is ava, an indie rock band founded in Lafayette, Indiana in 2001. Its original line-up includes Rob Soden, also known as Rob Banks, Kalli Scheffen, also known as Kalli Fox, Brad Threlkeld, also known as B-rad, and Dave Evans, who is later replaced by Jon Sommer, also known as Jonny Magic. The group’s music appears on NPR and in motion pictures, and its most recent known recording is “She’s Out for Blood.”
Another artist using the name is AVA, the stage name of Éabha McMahon, a contralto singer from Ireland and a former member of Celtic Woman. She begins recording music under the name AVA in 2020.
AVA is also the name of a Bulgarian singer, Stanislava Dimitrova Azova. Born in Burgas, she plays piano from the age of five, graduates in piano in 1995 from the musical school “Professor P. Vladigerov” in Burgas, and starts her professional career as a singer and dancer in 1998. In 1999 she joins the female trio 3 Di and handles choreography for all the songs. Their first radio single, “Kluch kum surtceto,” reaches the top of the radio charts. She also writes the script for the video for “Moje Bi,” which is directed by Rumen Vasilev.
Other uses of the name include Ava Gaudet, who performs as Maureen Johnson in the national tour of RENT before moving to Broadway in the same role; a project of Carlos Hernandez from Brooklyn, New York; AVA as an abbreviation of Angels & Airwaves; an avant-garde jazz rock fusion band from Albuquerque, New Mexico known for complex song structures, odd time signatures and instrumental proficiency; a Korean techno-dance-pop artist, also known as Lee Jung Hyun or 이정현; and the Polish pop-rock band AvA, led by soap opera actor Marek Molak.
