Aura Noir

Aura Noir is a Norwegian black/thrash metal group from Oslo. Formed in 1993, the band sits within black metal, thrash metal and progressive metal, and its sound is described as leaning towards old-school black metal.

Formation and membership

The group begins as a duo of multi-instrumentalists, Apollyon and Aggressor. It later expands into a full band when Blasphemer, known for his work with Mayhem, joins. The current listed members are Apollyon, Carl-Michael Eide and Blasphemer.

Recordings and collaborations

Aura Noir’s recordings involve a number of guest musicians. Fenriz of Darkthrone contributes vocals on one release, and Danny Corrales of Autopsy and Abscess appears as a guest on Hades Rise. The band releases The Merciless in 2004 on Darkthrone’s label Tyrant Syndicate, followed by Hades Rise in 2008.

Notable events

After the release of The Merciless, Aggressor is involved in an accident in Oslo that leaves his lower body temporarily paralysed. He spends several months in hospital before returning to guitar playing.
