August and After

August and After are a London-based indie-folk group active from 2012. The act centres on songwriter Ned Stranger and forms around three-part harmonies and arrangements that combine guitar, viola, piano, synth and percussion.

Formation and members

Songwriters Ned and Vedantha meet while studying at Cambridge. After spending time developing their vocal harmonies and guitar playing, they move to London, where they meet Jordan, a classical violist studying at the Royal Academy of Music. The three form August and After in London.

Style and releases

The group’s sound draws on folk and indie-folk, with classically informed instrumentation and layered vocal work. Their debut EP, Cascades, is recorded in Paris with French producer Jonathan Lefèvre-Reich of We Were Evergreen.

Live activity and recognition

August and After play sold-out London shows, support artists including Ghostpoet and Scott Matthews, and hold a residency at Ronnie Scott’s. They also tour in Europe. Their music receives support from BBC 6 Music and Kerrang! Radio, and the track “Wolves” appears on Spotify UK’s Your Coffee Break playlist, where it gains over 200,000 plays.
