Aslan

Aslan is an Irish rock band from Dublin, active since 1982. The group is centred on Christy Dignam and also includes Pat Fitzpatrick, with the wider line-up identified as Joe Jewel on guitar, Tony McGuinness on bass, Billy McGuinness on harmonica, keyboards, percussion and guitar, and Alan Downey on drums. Across its career, the band works within pop rock and rock, and it also plays acoustic material and other styles.

Career and recordings

The band forms in the mid to late 1980s and becomes known for a heavy live schedule in Ireland, generally playing at least one gig a week. Its repertoire ranges across pop, acoustic rock and rock, rather than staying within a single style.

Aslan releases five studio albums: Feel No Shame, Goodbye Charlie Moonhead, Here Comes Lucy Jones, Waiting for This Madness to End and For Some Strange Reason. It also issues two live albums, Made in Dublin and Live at the Olympia, a greatest-hits collection titled Shame About Lucy Moonhead, a DVD of Made in Dublin, and a platinum collection of singles, B-sides and rare tracks.

Collaborations

The band records duets with Sinéad O'Connor, including Up in Arms and She's So Beautiful.
