A.Skillz

A.Skillz, also known as Adam, is a London-based DJ and producer associated with funk, breakbeat, breaks, oldskool and hip hop. He works under the name Krafty Skillz as well.

Style and work

His sound combines funk, hip hop and breaks, with scratching and mixing forming a central part of his approach on turntables. He is known for production work as well as DJing, and he also makes music for commercial clients and brands.

Releases and collaborations

In 2003 he releases the album TrickaTechnology with Krafty Kuts on Finger Lickin’, a release that draws on influences including De La Soul, James Brown and Jurassic 5. The record features contributions from artists including Kurtis Blow, Real Elements and Ashley “Freakpower” Slater. He also issues a limited-edition 7-inch single, It’s your booty day, and appears on a number of remixes, including work connected to The Nextmen, Black Grass, The Fort Knox Five, Ed Funk, DJ Yoda and his own material.

DJ activity and performances

He plays club and festival dates in the UK and internationally, with appearances at FabricLive, Spectrum, Chew The Fat, Supercharged, The Boutique and Sugarbeat. His other performances include The Hit Factory in New York, WMC in Miami, Field Day in Sydney, Glastonbury Festival, Pacha in Ibiza, Snowbombing in Austria, Mysteryland in Amsterdam, Homelands in the UK and a Live 8 after-show party in London. He also tours Australia, Canada, the United States and Europe.

Radio, mixes and media work

A.Skillz records a mini-mix for Annie Mac that is later voted best mini-mix of the year by Radio 1 listeners. He also prepares DJ mix albums, including an exclusive CD for Boxfresh and Finger Lickin’ Presents Fresh Traxx.

Production for television and brands

His studio work includes music for Channel 4 through Talk Back, a Renault television advert and Sony PlayStation’s Gran Turismo 4. He is also described as working with worldwide brands.
