Ascaris
Ascaris is a grindcore group from Szczecin, Poland. The name is also used by several other acts in different countries, including a Polish death metal band, a French deathcore band, a US gorenoise solo project and a blackened death metal band from the south west UK.
Polish death metal band
The Polish Ascaris forms in Wrocław in 1991. It releases a first demo cassette, Crawling Chaos, in 1992, then the full-length Uncured Sickness two years later. Later releases include the EP Grapes of Wrath in 1996 and the album Storm of Dilemmas in 2001. That album includes a cover of Death’s Empty Words. The group splits after its second full-length. Guitarist Havran also plays in the Polish thrash metal band Nostredame.
French deathcore band
The French Ascaris forms in Brive, in the south of France, in summer 2002. It plays twice in Russia and several times in France. Its music combines death metal, metal and hardcore, with saturated vocals, and its lyrics address the universality of evil and a sense of unity among hardcore people. Two members, niaf and grums, also play in the French metalcore band H-TRAY.
US gorenoise project
The US Ascaris is a one-person gorenoise project led by Styv, who is also involved in many goregrind and gorenoise projects and is best known for Vomitoma and the label Splatterfuck Tapes. The project has a short lifespan and releases splits with acts including HxAxSx and Liquified Insides.
UK blackened death metal band
A fourth Ascaris is a three-piece blackened death metal band from the south west UK. It forms in mid-2012, releases the EP Initiation in 2014, and begins work on a full-length planned for 2015. It also tours and plays shows with underground bands such as Bloodshot Dawn and Cerebral Bore, and with larger acts including Cryptopsy, Anaal Nathrakh, Svart Crown, Diabolical and Vallenfyre.
