Arty
Arty is the name used by more than one act. The best-known use is as a pseudonym for Russian DJ and trance producer Artem Stolyarov, who is based in Moscow and starts his DJ career in 2009. He works in trance and related electronic styles, and becomes closely associated with Anjunabeats through a run of vinyl releases on the label. His sound is described as clean and uplifting, and he also records under the alias Alpha 9.
His track Come Home features prominently on the first disc of his Once Upon A Night collection in spring 2010, helping increase his profile. He also attracts attention from Ferry Corsten, who notices material made under the Alpha 9 name. In addition to his own releases, he confirms remixes for Paul van Dyk, Filo & Peri and Gareth Emery, and plans to release a cover of Moby’s New York New York on Spinnin’ Records. His work reaches audiences across club scenes in Europe, North America, Australia, Indonesia and India.
There is also a separate Mexican post-rock band called Arty, originally formed in León, Guanajuato in 2004 by Ricardo, Daniel, Jorge and Pablo. That group begins as an instrumental band influenced by late-1990s and early-2000s post-rock and emo, plays indie venues in its hometown, wins first place in the “Band Stage 2” competition, and later records its debut EP in Mexico City. Its releases include Maxidemo Barsolo, Arty EP, a second edition of that EP, Gardens Inside and Eterno Retorno. Over time the band changes line-up, adds vocals and lyrics, shifts towards electronic rock and later post-punk influences, briefly becomes Blackpony after splitting, and then reunites in 2015 with a revised membership. It also plays events including Festival Cervantino, Rockampeonato Telcel, Feria de León, IMAGINA Post-Rock Festival, FENAL, and Utopía Fest.
