Art of Noise

Art of Noise, also known as The Art of Noise, is a London-based group formed in 1983 by engineer and producer Gary Langan, programmer J.J. Jeczalik, arranger Anne Dudley, producer Trevor Horn and music journalist Paul Morley. Its line-up also includes Lol Creme. The group works in art pop, avant-garde pop, electronic music, plunderphonics, sampledelia and synth-pop, and is known for experimental use of sampling, electronics and computers in pop music.

The band builds mostly instrumental pieces as melodic sound collages using digital sampler technology, which is a new tool at the time of its early releases. It is initially presented as a faceless anti-group, with an idea that blurs the boundary between the art and its creators. From the earliest releases on ZTT, it uses both Art of Noise and The Art of Noise as its name, and official as well as unofficial releases and press material use both forms.

Art of Noise has international Top 20 hits with Kiss and the instrumental Peter Gunn. Peter Gunn wins a Grammy Award in 1986.
