Arnold Jarvis is a US house vocalist and songwriter known for work in deep house, vocal house, soulful house and electronic music. He begins his career singing solo with the Baltimore Gospel Choir while still a teenager, then moves to New York City in 1984, where he starts writing, performing and recording within the city’s club and dance music circles.
Career
Jarvis first gains attention through his collaboration with Fonda Rae on “You’re The Best,” a track written by Lem Springsteen and produced by Kerri Chandler. His debut single, “Take Some Time Out,” appears on Fourth Floor Records and is produced by Tommy Musto and Yvonne Turner; it becomes an underground and international success.
During the 1990s, he guest appears on Satoshi Tomiie’s “And I Loved You,” released on FFRR and Polygram UK and produced by Frankie Knuckles. He also records “Inspiration” on Freetown Records, produced by Kerri Chandler. He then works with Swing 52 on “Color of My skin” on FFRR and Cutting Records and “The Joy You Bring” on Cutting Records, which he co-writes.
Later work
By the 2000s, Jarvis continues to release a steady run of house tracks. In 2000 he issues “Learn to Give” on Hysteria Records, produced by Eric Kupper; “Life Goes On” on MAW Records, made with Louie Vega and vocalist Lisa Fischer; and “Special Kind of Love” on King Street Records, produced by Benji Candelario and remixed by Jazz and Groove. He releases his debut album, Arnold Jarvis, The Collection, on MFL Records in 2002.
Further singles include “Love Of My Life” on West End Records, produced by the Basement Boys; “You’ve Let Love Slip Away” on King Street Records, which reaches the top 5 of Billboard’s Dance Sales chart; “Make The Time,” written and produced by Blaze for the LIFE BEAT benefit compilation Keep Hope Alive; and “Take Good Care Of Me” on Sole Channel Music.
Performance and collaborators
Jarvis tours internationally and performs alongside artists including Queen Latifah, Kenny Bobien, Barbara Tucker, Ultra Naté, CeCe Peniston, Loleatta Holloway, Jocelyn Brown and Byron Stingily.
