Argies
Argies is a punk band from Rosario, Argentina, active since 1984. The group takes its name from “Argies”, a pejorative shortening of “Argentine” that was used by English soldiers during the 1982 Falklands War.
Style and themes
Its sound is rooted in 1970s British punk and also draws on ska, reggae, Latin music and rock and roll. The group’s lyrics are described as testimonial in style and, in later work, as focusing more deeply on human ethics.
Line-up and working method
Argies does not operate as a fixed-members band. It works as a cooperative of independent musicians, with players joining and leaving by personal choice while contributing to the group’s wider cultural activity. Héctor Pampa and David Balbina are members of the group, and David remains a long-standing vocalist and guitarist, credited with a large share of the music and lyrics.
Members noted in the group’s 2007 line-up
At that point the line-up includes David on vocals and guitar, Damián on guitar and vocals, Ignacio on bass and chorus, and Sebastian on drums.
Recording and labels
Combative Records is listed among the group’s labels.
