Area 52

AREA 52 is a name used by several bands, including a Reading, UK-based rock band formed in 2013 and a Gibraltar alternative rock trio formed from members of Melon Diesel and Reach.

Reading, UK band

The Reading line-up consists of Rose on vocals, Katie, Cat, George and Max. The band releases the single “Revolution” and the EP Red Room in 2014. Red Room is recorded at Silver Street Studios in Reading. Another track, “What do you Want?”, is recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London and produced by Mark “Tufty” Evans. It is scheduled for release in March 2015. The video for the song reaches 10,000 views in the month before release. “Carry On”, another Abbey Road recording, is picked as a Radio 1 Huw Stephens track of the week in early March 2015 and is also played by Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music and across local BBC and indie radio stations.

Gibraltar band

The Gibraltar version of Area 52 is a three-piece alternative rock band featuring Stephen Mclaren on vocals and guitar, Guy Palmer on bass and vocals, and Adrian Pozo on drums. The group forms from the remains of two Gibraltar bands, Melon Diesel and Reach. Melon Diesel signs to Sony Records Spain, later Sony BMG Spain, and becomes one of the leading rock bands in the Spanish music scene. It supports acts including R.E.M., Manic Street Preachers, Oasis, Hole and Placebo, and its sales pass 200,000 copies. The band reaches number one in the Spanish charts with “Quiero un camino” from its first album in 2001. Its second album produces three top 20 hits, and its final album in 2003 has two top 10 hits. Reach signs to RCA Records Spain, releases an album and tours extensively in Spain supporting major Spanish acts. The Area 52 trio records its first album with producer Danilo Ballo in Turin, Italy, and is in negotiations for a record deal.
