Arcomnia is a group whose music combines medieval and contemporary elements, drawing on sources that include Sufism, Northern European paganism, drum and bass, Australasian musics, 12th- and 13th-century Galician and Portuguese song, dubstep, and Judaeo-Christian chant. The group presents these influences as part of a single musical approach built around shared rhythmic, melodic and harmonic material.
Members
The line-up includes Donald Mason on percussion, Sian Ashby on clarinet, Ian Tothill on fiddle and viola, Graham Wright on bagpipes and programming, Andrew Wood on keyboards and didgeridoo, and Abdezzahid Haddani on djembe and frame drum.
Instrumentation and style
Arcomnia is associated with medieval, bagpipes, groove, didgeridoo and English pipes, and its music brings together acoustic and electronic performance elements. The group uses these instruments and stylistic references to create music that links older chant and song forms with newer bass-driven genres.
