Archimedes

Archimedes are a group active from 1992 to 1996. They are described as blending indie, math rock and post-rock influences, with music that moves between melodic guitar parts, dreamlike synth textures and noisier passages. Their sound is compared to acts such as Foals, Mogwai, Tubelord and My Bloody Valentine.

Background

The group forms in Bristol and is fronted by Canadian-born Noah Villeneuve. They build a style around intricate guitar work and layered atmospherics, and are presented as a hard-working live band.

Live activity and support slots

Archimedes gig extensively and support a number of other acts, including Johnny Foreigner, Tellison, Shapes, White Rabbits, Active Child, The Neat, Hymns and British India.

Recordings and reception

Their On Spirals EP draws comment for its dense sound and expansive arrangements. A BBC Introducing remark describes the release as unfolding around the listener with large swathes of sound.
