Arcane
Arcane is the name used by several different musical acts, including a progressive metal band from Brisbane, Queensland, active from 2004 to 2015; a small doujin circle in Japan; a heavy rock and metal band from Belfast, Ireland influenced by Tool, Dream Theater and Iron Maiden; and a five-piece metal band from Bournemouth, United Kingdom.
Other acts using the name
There are also Arcane projects from the United States, including one thrash metal group and one hip-hop group. Other acts with the same name come from Ulm in Germany, Finland, Turkey and Seattle, Washington. The Finnish group plays melodic black metal, the Turkish group plays deathrash, and the Seattle band is a goth or deathrock act.
Paul Lawler
Arcane is also the recording name of Paul Lawler, a dark ambient and electronic artist from the United Kingdom. In this context, the name is used for electronic work associated with Berlin School styles and references to Tangerine Dream’s Baumann and Schmoelling eras.
Metal and hardcore project
Another Arcane is an old metallic hardcore band formed by members who later go on to form The Dillinger Escape Plan. Its only officially released song is “Malfactor”, which appears on the compilation The Tie That Binds in 1996.
