Apsilies

Apsilies is a Greek group of four musicians who form spontaneously around older rembetika songs. The group begins as friends playing together informally before developing a dry, original sound rooted in rembetiko. Its lineup is Dimitris Mystakidis on voice and guitar, Evgenios Voulgaris on voice, oud and bouzouki, Apostolos Tsardakas on kanonaki and violin, and Theodora Athanasiou on voice and baglama.

The group’s concerts lead to a strong response and an early CD release. It is associated with a renewed interest in rembetiko from Greece.
