Apparition is the name used by several different metal and rock acts, including a death metal band from the United States and a one-man black metal project from South Korea. The name is also used by other groups in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Detroit, Ohio and Georgia, as well as by an electronic musician from Minneapolis.

United States death metal band

This Apparition is a death metal band from Syosset, New York. The lineup includes Brett Clarin on guitar, Rich Figlia on bass, Mike Hymson on drums, and Andy Marchione on guitar and vocals. The band forms in 1988 and releases two demos, Demo I and Human Fear, in 1988 and 1989, followed by the single Eternally Forgotten / Curse the Sunrise in 1990. It later changes its name to Sorrow.

South Korean black metal project

This Apparition is a solo black metal project from South Korea by Musin Chiu. It self-releases the demo album In The Name Of Chiu in 2008, and the recording is later reissued by the Korean black metal label Nerbilous. In March 2009, Nerbilous releases the second demo album, Blackmetal Spirit.

Other acts using the name

Another Apparition is a symphonic and melodic metal band from Stafford, UK. It traces its roots to Asphyxiator, which records The Pain Lives On in 1997 before splitting in 1998. Apparition forms in January 2004, signs to Casket/Copro Records in January 2006, and releases Drowned in Questions in April 2006. The early lineup includes Dave, Jen Lowe, Paul Collins, Annabelle Harris and Richard Knight; Jen Lowe later leaves and is replaced by Fiona Creaby on vocals and Ian Bentley on keys, and Annabelle Harris also leaves in November 2006.

A Dutch Apparition from The Hague makes melodic metal and features Barry Heins on vocals, Peter Kettenis on lead guitar and backing vocals, Janno van Callinge on guitar, Erik Wildenberg on bass and backing vocals, and Pim Stehouwer on drums. It forms in October 2003 and releases the demos The First Sighting and Premonition, and the albums Reflections and Reminiscence. Another Apparition is a psychedelic rock band from Detroit that releases a 45 rpm single with the song “Apparition” on the A-side, with an earlier version issued in 1973 and a later pressing in 1974. There is also a screamo/hardcore band from Cincinnati, Ohio, featuring members of Veterans and Siblings, and a hardcore thrash band from Athens, Georgia led by Griffin, with Vitale on vocals.
