Apparat
Apparat is the recording name of Sascha Ring, a German electronic musician from Quedlinburg, Germany, born in 1978 and based in Berlin. Since 1999, he runs the Berlin label Shitkatapult with T.Raumschmiere. His work begins in dancefloor-oriented techno and later moves towards ambient, glitch, clicks and cuts, and IDM, with classical string instruments and other layered sounds. He also uses a tool he creates in the MAX/MSP framework, with effects controlled by a MIDI controller.
Apparat’s music develops from club-focused electronics into more spacious and detailed sound design, with a strong interest in atmosphere as well as rhythm. His live performances are noted for being especially forceful. He collaborates with Ellen Allien on Berlinette in 2003 and Orchestra of Bubbles in 2006. His fourth album, The Devil’s Walk, is developed after a long trip to Mexico, including work in a makeshift studio in Sayulita.
He is associated with ambient, club, dance, deep house, dubstep and EDM, and with the label Shitkatapult.
