Apollyon

Apollyon is a blackened death metal group from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. The band forms in November 2014 and releases its debut EP, I Am the King Now, in 2015.

Style and background

The group is identified with blackened death metal, and the tag set also places it alongside black metal, death metal and thrash metal. It is listed as an extreme metal act from Kelowna.

Early name history and releases

An earlier incarnation of Apollyon begins in 1992, when Archdemon Diabolos, also known as M. Bisgaard, and Lord Worros form the band. They record the demo Creators Of Evil Thoughts, which appears in January 1993, followed by a further two-track demo in May that year. After Lord Worros leaves, that first version of the band ends in 1994.

The name returns in 1994 with Archdemon Diabolos and Sorgh of BRANDPEST on guitar, later joined by Korihor on bass. This line-up records the 1995 demo Troldeskovens Aander. After recording, Azter of DENIAL OF GOD replaces Korihor, and the band plays its first live show in this form in August 1995. Following only two concerts, Azter leaves and Vrykolatios of BRANDPEST joins on lead vocals.

Apollyon then contributes Omnia In Majorem Diaboli Gloriam to the compilation album A Tribute To Hell, which helps the band secure a contract with Full Moon Productions. The EP Diaboli Gratia is issued by Full Moon Productions in July 1998 and includes guest appearances from singer Lise Christiansen and keyboard player Henrik Jansberg.

Side project and later activity

Archdemon Diabolos and Vrykolatios also work together in the side project MALA FIDE in 1998. In 2003, Apollyon announces a 7-inch single, The Morningstar Installment, for Ancient Darkness Productions.
