Anita Harris

Anita Harris is an English actress, singer and entertainer from Midsomer Norton, Somerset. Born in 1942, she begins performing as a child and initially expects to become a dancer. After leaving school, she goes to Las Vegas to train as a choreographed skater, an unusual path for a British performer of the 1950s and one that reflects the expectations held by her family.

Early career

Her first notable professional work in the UK is as a singer, including a brief period as one of the few women to perform with the Cliff Adams Singers. The group is known for its long-running presence on BBC radio’s Sing Something Simple. While still in her teens, she records her first single with the John Barry Seven, a band then active in the pop charts, although the record does not achieve the success she hopes for.

1960s peak

Her career reaches its high point in the late 1960s. During this period she has a major hit with “Just Loving You”, a song she obtains through Dusty Springfield from Springfield’s brother Tom. She also appears in several British films and becomes a familiar figure on UK television.
