Anímic

Anímic is a Catalan neofolk group formed in 2003. The group releases music in Catalan and is associated with Spanish and folk tags, with later work also linked to more obscure and dense sounds. It has six albums by 2017.

History and releases

In 2004, Anímic begins issuing music under a Creative Commons licence and releases Teràpia musical on Les Petites Coses Records. In 2007, the group publishes Hau o Hïu, which helps it reach a wider audience. In 2009, it releases Himalaya, an album noted for a more refined minimalist style. During the making of Hannah in 2010, Raül Cuevas of Nanouk Produccions films a documentary titled From Texas to Arbúcies, which premieres at the In-Edit Beefeater festival.

Later work

In September 2013, Anímic releases Hannibal on BCore Disc and Les Petites Coses Records. That record marks a stylistic change and moves towards darker, denser textures. In 2017, the group publishes its sixth album, Skin.

Members and related activity

The group’s keyboardist Ferran Palau also develops a parallel solo career as a singer-songwriter from the 2010s.

Reception

Himalaya receives strong reviews, and Hannah is included by Mondosonoro magazine among the year’s best releases.
