Animalism

Animalism is an electronic pop project formed in 2013 by the independent producer duo Imam Buana and Pandji Dharma. The project combines throbbing drum machines with a psychedelic-oriented sound and a broad pop basis, with both members describing it through a wild, instinct-driven approach to making music.

Members and background

Imam Buana is based in Jakarta and draws on psychedelia, post-punk and indie electronic pop, with influences from the 2000s. He has worked with a range of commercial and independent acts, including The Apollo, Hai!, 20 Adventure Time, MAMI & ADHE ARRIO, Sirati Dharma and KimoKal.

Pandji Dharma is based in Sydney, Australia and is influenced by garage rock, psychedelia and electronica. He has contributed to projects including The Fire Fighters, Honey Badger, Adharma and Sirati Dharma, and has also been the lead singer of the Australian stoner band Addicted Beach.

Style and activity

The project develops from the different locations of its two members, who work through contrasting scenes and influences. In 2014, Animalism releases the single “GET LOST”.
