Animal

Animal is a rap artist from New York. The name also appears on recordings and projects by several unrelated acts, including a lo-fi indie pop musician based in West Lafayette, Indiana; a Muppet character identified as a drummer; a psytrance producer; a math rock band from Brooklyn; an Argentinian rock band whose name expands to Acosados Nuestros Indios Murieron Al Luchar; an Austin, Texas hard rock power trio formed from members of High Watt Crucifixers and Lions; and Randy Piper’s Animal, which releases its first album under the name Animal.

The West Lafayette artist behind the name is Aaron Nemec, a musician and visual artist who releases lo-fi indie pop albums on his own label, Executive Bird, and offers most of them as free downloads through his website. He later changes his performing name from Animal to Drum Kit.

The Muppet character Animal is known for a limited vocabulary made up largely of shouts and short phrases, with performances that present the character chained to the drum kit because of his violent playing style. The first real-life drummer behind the character is Ronnie Verrell.

The Brooklyn Animal project is a math rock band, and the psytrance act appears on the BLAH compilation, which is available in limited quantities.

The Argentinian band A.N.I.M.A.L. is active from 1993 to 2006.

The Austin power trio Animal is active from 2010 and includes members from Austin bands High Watt Crucifixers and Lions.
