Angelica Garcia

Angelica Garcia is an American singer-songwriter and indie pop artist from Los Angeles and El Monte. She is based in Richmond, Virginia, and her work is also associated with folk, rock and indie.

Garcia releases two studio albums: Medicine for Birds and Cha Cha Palace. Her song “Jícama” gains wider attention after being selected by Barack Obama for his 2019 year-end list.

She is born in Los Angeles and raised in El Monte in the San Gabriel Valley. Her mother is of Mexican and Salvadoran descent and performs as the freestyle musician Angelica, who scores a top-40 Billboard Hot 100 hit with a 1992 cover of “Angel Baby”.

Garcia studies creative writing at Cooperative Arts High in New Haven, Connecticut, then returns to Southern California and graduates from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she studies vocal jazz. She also performs at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

At 17, her family moves to Accomac, Virginia, and she later moves to Richmond on her own. She also appears in the racing video game Forza Horizon 5 as the DJ of the in-game rock station Horizon XS, which includes “Karma the Knife” from Cha Cha Palace in its soundtrack.
