Andy McCarthy

Andy McCarthy is a US composer of film scores and a member of The Sunsets. He is born in 1945 and is associated with the United States.

He is also linked in the available record to music, technology and computers. Early in his working life, he starts out in arcade conversions and then moves into original software work for companies including Sega of Japan and Nintendo.

Interest in dance music

McCarthy first develops an interest in house music in the early 1990s and becomes a regular at clubs and events including the Sugar Shack in Middlesbrough, Godskitchen, Gatecrasher and Goodgreef. He later steps back from clubbing because of family and other commitments.

His interest in dance music is renewed after seeing Deadmau5 at Creamfields in 2010. He responds to Deadmau5’s use of computers and samples, which connects with his background in computer game development.

Production work

After returning from the festival, McCarthy buys Ableton Live and begins producing and performing his own music. He goes on to play regularly in small venues across the North East of England and secures a Goodgreef debut.

Influences

He names Moguai, Michael Woods, Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner as his main influences.
