Andrew Morris
Andrew Morris is an Australian singer, songwriter and composer from Brisbane, with an early life in Melbourne. He is also described as a well travelled artist. He releases his debut album Well Tread Roads in 2014, after writing and arranging it in his bedroom. The album is mixed and post-produced by Jordan Critz in Dallas, Texas.
Background
Music begins for Morris at the age of five, when he is placed at a piano and introduced to traditional folk music. He writes his first song at 12, then teaches himself drums and guitar at 13. Songwriting becomes a natural part of his work.
His musical influences include 1970s Laurel Canyon artists such as James Taylor, Jackson Browne and the Eagles, and later Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen.
Recording and releases
Well Tread Roads reflects the pressures of making music while working full time, with the songs shaped by evenings and weekends spent on the project. The album explores depression in “This Black Dog”, a longing for family in “Home City”, and the idea of finding his own direction in the title track. Its sound ranges across driving pop, folk and acoustic songs.
Alongside the album, Morris has two EPs.
Other work
Morris has music placements in television adverts for Thatcher’s Cider and Vodafone. He also writes for production music companies and films around the world, including EMI and Imagem.
