Analepsy

Analepsy is a Portuguese brutal death metal band from Lisboa, active since 2013. The group plays slamming brutal death metal and technical brutal death metal, and its sound combines old-school brutal death metal with modern melodic elements.

Formation and name

The band forms in late 2013 in Lisbon, Portugal, by former vocalist Ricardo Proença and guitarist Marco Martins. They meet through a mutual friend after a Disgorge (USA) concert in Lisbon. Flávio Pereira joins soon afterwards, followed by Diogo Santana as lead guitarist and Tiago Correia as drummer. The name is pronounced “uh-nuh-leh-psy” and is chosen for its older meaning of recovery of strength after illness.

Early releases

Analepsy first gains wider attention with the single “Genetic Mutations” in April 2014. The track is recorded, mixed and mastered by Miguel Tereso of Demigod Recordings, first appears digitally, and later receives a limited physical pressing of 36 copies through Dismembered Records in Indonesia. The band’s first live performance takes place at a birthday party in July 2014.

The debut EP, Dehumanization by Supremacy, is released in May 2015 through Vomit Your Shirt in Portugal and Rotten Cemetery Records in Chile. The release is well received by existing fans, critics and new listeners.

Albums, splits and line-up changes

In mid-2016, Ricardo Proença leaves for personal reasons. Diogo Santana becomes vocalist while continuing as lead guitarist. The remaining members continue writing and recording the first full-length album, Atrocities from Beyond, which is released worldwide in January 2017 through Vomit Your Shirt and Rising Nemesis Records in Germany.

In late 2016, Analepsy accept an invitation from Kraanium to collaborate on a split CD. The Kraanialpesy Split appears in July 2017 via Rising Nemesis Records.

Live activity and tours

In April 2017, the band wins the Portuguese W:O:A Metal Battle with support from SWR Barroselas Metalfest, then represents Portugal in the final round of the Metal Battle at Wacken Open Air in August. They tour Europe with Human Vivisection in July 2017, then join the Apocalyptic Slamming Evisceration 2017 Tour with Acranius and Carnal Decay in September and October.

Analepsy first tour outside Europe in Japan in April 2019 as headliners. Later in 2019, they appear on the Decapitating Europe Tour with Dysentery, Parasitic Ejaculation and Pray for Pain, and perform at Resurrection Fest after substituting for Misery Index and Power Trip.

Later line-up changes

In 2019, Flávio Pereira leaves the band in May and João Jacinto joins as bassist in June. Tiago Correia departs in September to focus on other projects, and Diogo Santana leaves at the end of the year because of differing musical interests and visions. Daniel Torgal joins as drummer in February 2020.
