Anakim

Anakim are a death metal group from Weymouth, England, active since 2011. They are also described as a progressive death metal band from Dorset, and their sound is defined by heavy, rhythmic riffs, melodic layers and unusual song structures. Their lyrics draw on ancient Mesopotamian mythologies and modern science fiction fantasy, giving their music a large-scale, dramatic character.

History

The group forms in the summer of 2011 and writes material continuously after that point. Lead guitarist Joe Ryan writes the guitar parts and initial drum ideas before later working with guitarist Carl Hunting and Trifixion drummer Ewan Ross to complete the debut album, Monuments to Departed Worlds. The drums are recorded in Weymouth in 2014, with the guitars recorded later the same year.

After the instrumental work is in place, the search begins for a vocalist and bassist. In 2015, Geoff Bradley of brutal death metal band Atonement joins as full-time vocalist, and he works with the group on the lyrics and vocal recording. In early 2016, Ant Ridout of Bloodshot Dawn joins on bass, bringing the line-up to Joe Ryan on guitars, Carl Hunting on guitars, Geoff Bradley on vocals, Ewan Ross on drums and Ant Ridout on bass.

Recording

At the time described, Anakim are recording their debut album, Monuments to Departed Worlds. The album brings together the parts developed by Ryan and completed with the later contributions of the rest of the line-up.
