Anabel Englund

Anabel Englund is a singer, songwriter, record producer and DJ from Los Angeles, California, in the United States. She works in vocal house and related electronic styles, and is signed to Three Six Zero Music.

Early work and collaborations

Englund first performs at a Christian youth group when she is 16, and later becomes a singer-songwriter at Disney-owned ABC Family, where she supplies theme songs and other music for television shows. During 2010 and 2011, she writes and performs piano-led ballads, both as a solo artist and as part of a duo called Suburban Nightlife.

In late 2012, she meets producers Lee Foss and Jamie Jones and begins working with Marc Kinchen, known as MK. Their collaboration on the track “Electricity,” released on Hot Creations, brings her wider attention and leads to radio support on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix playlist in January 2013.

That success leads to work with British-American electronic and house group Hot Natured on the 2013 album Different Sides of the Sun. She features on “Reverse Skydiving,” “Mercury Rising” and “Emerald City,” and remixes of these tracks also draw attention. “Reverse Skydiving” reaches number 56 on the Official UK Singles Chart. She also performs with Hot Natured at major festivals around the world.

Pleasure State and solo recording

Englund later forms the Pleasure State project with MK and Lee Foss. Their debut EP, Ghost In the System, is released by Hot Creations in 2014.

In 2014, she says that she has signed to Three Six Zero, in partnership with Warner Bros. and Warner/Chappell Music, and is working on a debut solo album. She also signs a modelling contract with Models 1.

Defected Records later announces her debut solo single, “London Headache,” a house and alternative pop track with disco elements and personal lyrics. Around the same time, she starts her own live event series, Gari Safari.

Chart success and albums

In 2019, Englund signs with MK’s AREA10 imprint in partnership with Ultra Music and begins releasing singles. “So Hot” reaches number one on U.S. dance radio and remains there for eight weeks. “Picture Us” also reaches number one on U.S. dance radio and tops Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. Her debut album, Messing With Magic, is released in 2020 through Ultra Music and AREA10 as a collection of the singles she issues that year, including “So Hot,” “Picture Us” and “Underwater.”

“Underwater” becomes her third song to reach number one on U.S. dance radio and her second to top Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. A deluxe edition of Messing with Magic follows and includes “Waiting for You,” her fourth number one on U.S. dance radio.

Style and activity

Englund continues to feature on tracks by other DJs and performs at events and festivals internationally. Her work centres on vocal house, with pop and electronic influences.
