Ana Frango Elétrico is the professional name of Ana Faria Fainguelernt, a Brazilian singer, songwriter, painter and poet from Rio de Janeiro. Born in 1997, they work across funk, jazz pop and mpb, and are also associated with indie pop, chamber pop and art pop.

Early life and musical training

Ana grows up in a family with a plastic artist father and a psychologist mother. They begin studying music at the age of six. By seven, they can read sheet music and perform classical piano in recitals. At ten, they pass the entrance exam for the Villa Lobos music school, which leads them to study music more seriously.

Artist name and career beginnings

Before taking up singing and songwriting, Ana does not initially plan to become a performer. They later fall in love with music and choose it as a career. Their stage name comes from a family story: after learning that their grandfather was bullied because of his Russian surname, they create the name “Frango Elétrico”, meaning Electric Chicken.

Albums

Ana begins composing songs for their debut album Mormaço Queima at the age of 16. The album is released in 2018. Their second album, Little Electric Chicken Heart, follows in 2019 and receives critical praise. Their third studio album, Me Chama de Gato Que Eu Sou Sua, is released in 2023.
