Amy Bell
Amy Bell is a rock band from Forssa, Finland, active since the end of 2005. The group begins with Miku, Antti, Tommi and Matti, who start out playing cover versions alongside their other bands before moving on to writing their own material. Their early rehearsals take place in December 2005, and they begin playing together properly in January 2006.
Early development
The band first works on Muse songs, with Weezer also among the early covers they play. Their sessions are usually held at weekends, often on Sunday afternoons. In 2006 they play their first gig at Formu-Rock in the local theatre house in Forssa, and later that year they stop treating themselves as a cover band and begin focusing on original songs.
Rehearsal spaces are a recurring issue in the band’s early years. After one practice place is banned because of problems caused by other bands, they move to a sporting house in Vaulammi. Scheduling remains difficult because of work, study and hobbies, and the band also loses equipment in a fire at the Vaulammi rehearsal space. They later arrange a new practice place in Somero, in an old henhouse converted for musicians, which they describe as their most flexible rehearsal space.
Recording and releases
In December 2006 Amy Bell starts recording a demo at Eurajoen Kristillinen Opisto, where Miku is studying music. The plan is to make a five-song demo, but the recording session is difficult and the band ends up with four raw versions that are not intended for public release.
In June 2008 the band releases a four-song demo album called
The Weights
.Live activity
The group makes what it considers its debut of original material on 25 August at Venetsialaiset in Eurajoki. At that show they play around nine songs, including several covers and the rest original material. Other acts on the bill include Komedia Vulgaria and Euforia.
Band line-up and later activity
The band’s line-up includes Miku, Antti, Tommi and Matti. Over time, the members’ schedules remain difficult to align because Miku studies in Helsinki, Matti studies in Hyvinkää, and Antti’s floorball commitments increase as his team moves up a level.
Amy Bell is described as a Finnish alternative rock band and also as a Finnish rock band from Forssa.
