Amputated
Amputated are a brutal death metal group from Bristol, England, active since 2002. They form in the Bristol metal scene after the end of the members’ previous bands, with an initial line-up of Morbid Mark on vocals, Daryl BC on rhythm guitar, Simon on lead guitar, Sicky Martin on bass and Garry on drums. After a period of line-up changes, they continue as a four-piece, and later add Ollie Jones, known from Desecration and also a member of Extreme Noise Terror, on second guitar.
Style and influences
The band’s sound develops from death metal into a more brutal style, with influences including Nunslaughter, Gorerotted, Exhumed, Carcass and Cannibal Corpse, alongside later and heavier brutal death metal influences such as Lividity, Devourment, Vaginal Jesus and both the US and Mexican versions of Disgorge. Their live performances are described through an anti-PC attitude and an aggressive stage presence.
Early recordings and releases
Amputated’s first demo, Up to Our Nuts in Guts, creates a strong reaction among local metal fans. IBD Records later reissues it in January 2004 as part of a split CD with Belgium’s Leptotrichia. That release leads to wider activity, including the band’s first tour supporting Disgorge, Sanatorium and Gorerotted.
In early 2005 they record their debut full-length, Gargling with Infected Semen, at Endless Studios in Birmingham. The album includes new material, re-recorded versions of two demo tracks, and a cover of Jungle Rot’s Immersed in Pain. It is recorded with a deliberately raw sound while still aiming for a professional production.
Later activity
The band’s second studio album, Wading Through Rancid Offal, is released in 2009. They also appear at London Deathfest and are set to play Death Feast Open Air in 2010. Their live schedule includes shows with Necrophagia, Incantation, Avulsed and Deicide, as well as a slot at Obscene Extreme 2004 alongside acts including General Surgery, Blood and Prostitute Disfigurement. They also play headline shows across the UK.
