Ampersand

Ampersand is a German rock trio from Cologne, active since 1997. The group begins as a noise rock act and later shifts towards a style described as somewhere between noise rock and blues rock, with the German magazine Intro calling it “wertkonservativer herrenrock”.

Releases and personnel

The trio releases the albums Macro in 2001 and Boredom and Identity in 2004. In the earlier line-up, Bartz sings and plays guitar, but he is later replaced by singer and producer Hannes Jäckl, who previously performs with Sans Secours. The band’s later release is the album the can can variety show, which appears on rakete music in 2006.

Style

Across its releases, Ampersand moves away from its early Helmet-influenced noise rock towards a sound that keeps elements of rock and electronics while remaining rooted in the German alternative and indie scene.
