Amoss

Amoss is a London drum and bass group made up of James Evans and Andy Tweedale. The pair begin working together after meeting at a high school party around 2006, following a conversation about Slayer and shared musical interests. Their early background includes playing in various bands before they move into electronic music and then into drum and bass, with a particular interest in techstep and the sounds associated with Renegade Hardware and Moving Shadow. They also use a pair of belt-drive Numark decks, Ableton 5 and Computer Music Magazine in their early development as producers.

Releases and labels

Amoss release their first 12-inch single in December 2010 on Cyclone Recordings with Glurg Monster, a half-time, muddy dub-influenced track. In 2011 they make their debut on Renegade Hardware with Flex on the Inception EP, which helps establish them within the drum and bass scene. Their discography grows through releases on a range of forward-looking drum and bass labels.

They also appear on the 2012 Renegade Hardware compilation Horsementality, curated by Loxy and Ink, with two track appearances. A long-running association with Horizons Music leads to tracks including Tripped and Real Talk. Their State of Suspension EP on Dispatch Recordings is a five-track release that features a collaboration with MC Fokus and a further pairing with Italian producer Dabs. The EP reaches number one in digital and vinyl charts in various stores and receives strong support from DJ Storm.

DJ work and reputation

As DJs, Amoss present a wide range of drum and bass, which earns them a solid reputation in the UK and Europe. They headline the Meeting Points festival in the Czech Republic alongside Lynx & Kemo, perform at the Moat and Dungeon stages at Outlook Festival in 2011 and 2012, and play headline shows in Poland, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal and Germany. Their mixes and podcasts also receive significant support, including work for Horizons Music and Renegade Hardware, and they host the Dispatch Recordings show on Kane FM.

Support and collaborations

Amoss receive support from DJs and producers including Spectrasoul, Ant TC1, Doc Scott, Ulterior Motive, London Elektricity, BTK, Nymfo, DJ Storm and Loxy. Their sound is described through a mixture of aggressive, rhythmic, atmospheric and evocative elements, with an ongoing interest in new and emerging producers and varied material rather than familiar selections.
