Amon Amarth
Amon Amarth is a Swedish death metal and melodic death metal group from Tumba, Sweden, active since 1992. The band takes its name from the Sindarin term for Mount Doom in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Its lyrics draw mainly on Viking mythology and history, and the group is often associated with Viking metal as well as melodic death metal.
Line-up
The group includes Johan Hegg on vocals, Olavi Mikkonen on lead guitar, Ted Lundström on bass, Johan Söderberg on rhythm guitar, and Jocke Wallgren on drums. Other members listed across the band’s history include Nico Kaukinen, Anders Hansson, Martin Lopez, and Fredrik Andersson.
Releases
Amon Amarth’s debut album is Once Sent from the Golden Hall (1998). The band releases twelve studio albums in total, along with one compilation album, one EP, one video album, and ten music videos. Later studio albums include The Avenger (1999), The Crusher (2001), Versus the World (2002), Fate of Norns (2004), With Oden on Our Side (2006), Twilight of the Thunder God (2008), Surtur Rising (2011), Deceiver of the Gods (2013), Jomsviking (2016), Berserker (2019), and The Great Heathen Army (2022).
Recognition
Twilight of the Thunder God brings the band wider recognition and reaches number ten on the Swedish album chart and number fifty on the US Billboard 200.
