Amanda Whiting
Amanda Whiting is a British jazz harpist and composer from the United Kingdom. She is classically trained and works as an educator as well as a performer.
Education and early training
She begins classical harp study at the age of six. At sixteen, she receives a specialist scholarship to Wells Cathedral School. She goes on to study for a BMus with Caryl Thomas at Cardiff University, then completes a master’s degree in jazz at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Performance and recording
Whiting works as a freelance harpist internationally, with performances ranging from recitals at London’s Southbank to jazz festivals in Hamburg, Johannesburg and Belgium. She signs to Jazzman Records in 2020 as a jazz artist and releases two albums in September 2020 and February 2021.
Teaching and composition
She is the jazz harp specialist at both the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. In 2020, she receives her own studio on Harp Column Academy, where she teaches jazz internationally. As a composer, her work appears in the Trinity Harp syllabus for 2020–2023, which includes 22 of her compositions.
