Alyth McCormack, also known as Alyth, is a singer and actress from the United Kingdom. Born in 1970, she is brought up on the Isle of Lewis in the Scottish Outer Hebrides and grows up immersed in Hebridean culture. She performs from a young age on the island and later studies classical singing and drama at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.

Career

McCormack builds a career that spans singing, acting and collaborative work across folk, jazz, classical and indie music. She appears on more than 16 albums between the start of her recording career and 2007, working with a range of other artists. Her debut solo album, An Iomall, is released in 2000 on Vertical Records. A second solo album, People Like Me, follows in 2009 and features members of the Scottish band Lau.

Stage, touring and collaborations

From 2004, she tours with the international production On Eagles Wing, a role she takes up again in 2007. In 2007 and 2008, she performs worldwide with The Chieftains, including appearances at Boston Symphony Hall and Carnegie Hall. She also tours with Moving Hearts on their UK tour in 2008 and appears at the Liverpool Philharmonic. In addition, she performs a concert for Sanctuary with Moya Brennan and Nóirín Ní Riain.
