Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto

Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto is a collaboration between German minimal artist Carsten Nicolai, who works under the name Alva Noto, and Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto. The project combines Sakamoto’s piano playing with Nicolai’s electronic processing, producing music that joins solo piano with glitch-based microelectronics. The partnership brings together two different generations of electronic music practice and uses electronic sound as a basis for new musical structures.

Releases

The collaboration issues six releases on the Raster-Noton label, which Nicolai co-owns. These include the albums Vrioon and Insen, the EP Revep, the DVDs Insen Live and UTP_, and the album Summvs.
