Altan

Altan is an Irish folk and traditional music group formed in Gweedore, County Donegal, in 1987. The band is led by fiddler and vocalist Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and performs within celtic, folk and Irish folk styles.

The group includes Frankie Kennedy, Paul O’Shaughnessy, Dermot Byrne, Martin Tourish, Ciarán Curran, Tommy Hayes, Mark Kelly, Dáithí Sproule and Ciarán Tourish. It remains active from 1987 to the present.

Altan emerges during the 1990s as one of Ireland’s leading traditional music groups, with a recording history built on a series of critically received albums and extensive touring. The band also sells millions of records worldwide.
