Alpheus

Alpheus is a reggae singer from London, Jamaica, raised by Jamaican parents in London. He develops an interest in singing after seeing Sam Cooke perform on television and begins performing on local sound systems in London as a youth.

Career

He meets Tony Brevett of The Melodians while living in Florida, and Brevett introduces him to Clement Dodd and Studio One. There he records his debut album, Quality Time, in 1998, working over Studio One rhythms. He later releases Everything for a Reason on the French label Special Delivery, followed by From Creation in 2011 on A-Lone Label (Lone Ark Production).

Recording style

His work spans reggae, rocksteady and ska, with From Creation combining re-creations and original songs in a roots rocksteady and ska style. The album is produced by Roberto Sanchez of A-Lone Label, associated with 1970s-style reggae production.
