Allaby

Allaby is the trance project of Matt Allaby, a producer from Manchester in the UK. His background begins in the acid house scene of 1990s Madchester, and he also helps shape the early Northern psytrance scene. Before moving into dance music, he plays drums from the age of 11 in bands of different styles.

Early work and Manchester roots

Allaby is a resident DJ and co-promoter of the Sunrise party in Manchester from its start in 1997. That event provides a platform for his studio work, which first appears on Spiral Trax in 2002. His sound is associated with psytrance and psychedelic trance, alongside the Goa-related scene.

Releases, labels and remixes

Since 2002, he releases tracks on labels including Nano, Spiral Trax, Twisted, Neurobiotic and Alchemy. He also remixes The Egg’s “Angel of My Soul” for Nano Records and Vibrasphere’s “Landmark” for Digital Structures. He is working on a debut album for Nano.

Live appearances

His festival appearances include Glade and Glastonbury in the UK, Sonica in Italy, Voov in Germany, Ozora in Hungary, Taz in Israel, and Kabbalah and Universo Parallelo in Brazil.

Other interests

He describes himself as open to all styles of music as long as they are of quality, and he supports Manchester United FC.
