Alistair Griffin

Alistair Griffin is a British singer-songwriter from Yorkshire. He sings and plays acoustic guitar, and also fronts his own band, Blue Nun. His music ranges across several styles, including light pop, acoustic love songs, anthemic ballads and rock.

Career

Griffin performs as a solo artist after spending several years singing with different bands. In 2003 he appears on Fame Academy in an attempt to secure a solo recording contract. He finishes second, gains a record deal and goes on to have two top 20 hits. His debut album charts, although it receives little promotion, and he later leaves Universal and his management in 2004 to work independently, organising his own gigs and recording his own material.

Songwriting and collaborations

Alongside his own releases, Griffin writes for other artists. His songs include Hungry for Love for Di-rect and Angel by my Side for Do. He also tours in Germany and co-writes with Robin Gibb. Other collaborations include work with members of Ultra, Tony and Chris Griffiths of The Real People, and Paul Banks of Shed Seven.

Recordings

Griffin’s first album contains upbeat songs and romantic material that he describes as “a bit slushy”. He also releases a live mini-album recorded during his tour with Robin Gibb, which presents acoustic versions of four of his own songs plus a cover of a George Michael track. Later releases include finding Boethius, a three-track set, and Alistair Griffin, a four-track release. He makes new original recordings available mainly through gigs and his website.
