Alice Deejay is best known for the single “Better Off Alone”, released in 1998 and originally credited as DJ Jurgen presents Alice Deejay. It becomes an international hit, selling over one million albums and five million singles worldwide. The track reaches the top 10 in many European countries, charts in North America, goes platinum in the United Kingdom, reaches number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, number 3 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in the United States, and number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100.

It also enters the top 10 in Denmark, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The group’s only album, Who Needs Guitars Anyway?, is released in March 2000 and enters the UK Albums Chart top 10. Three more singles follow: “Will I Ever”, “The Lonely One” and “Celebrate Our Love”, all of which reach the top 20 in the United Kingdom.

Performances and later activity

Pronk tours dance venues with backing singers to perform the group’s material. The original lineup makes its final appearance together in 2002. After more than a decade of inactivity, the producers revive the project in 2014 under the slightly changed name Alice DJ, with a new vocalist, Ilona, who is a Dutch singer and DJ. In 2021, Pronk returns for a reunion tour across Europe and continues performing with the project through a final show in 2024.
