Alfie

Alfie are a British band from the United Kingdom, based in Manchester and active until 2005. The line-up consists of Lee Gorton, Ian Smith, Matt McGeever, Sam Morris and Sean Kelly. The band plays indie folk, indie pop and post-britpop, and is also associated with indie and britpop.

Career

The group first signs to Twisted Nerve Records and later moves to Regal/Parlophone Records. Its recorded output includes If You Happy With You Need Do Nothing, a release built from three early EPs, followed by A Word in Your Ear, Do You Imagine Things? and Crying at Teatime. The band announces its split in October 2005.

Line-up and sound

Lee Gorton sings, Ian Smith plays guitar, Matt McGeever plays guitar and cello, Sam Morris plays bass, keyboards and French horn, and Sean Kelly plays drums. The group is described as combining folk sensibility, classical training and psychedelic elements, with a sound that is loose, understated and harmony-led.

The name Alfie also belongs to other artists, including Alfie Silas, the Norwegian singer Alf-Gunnar Nielsen and the Hull-based artist Alfie Goff.
